Lighting the way for senior care. For Light of Hearts Villa, located in Bedford, Ohio, this assertion is not simply a tagline but rather a statement that permeates every aspect of the organization’s day-to-day operations.

Founded in 1989 by the Vincentian Sisters of Charity, the spirit of the Villa is marked by the charism of St. Vincent de Paul, charity and love of all people. The Vincentian Sisters of Charity had just closed Lumen Cordium High School (Latin for Light of Hearts), in 1987 and recognized that the building could serve a need that was not yet being met, senior residential living. In 2015, after a series of mergers and co-sponsorships among congregations, the Sisters of Charity Health System assumed management of Light of Hearts Villa.

Today the Villa maintains that same compassionate, faith-based, person-centered care that residents received when the doors were first opened in 1989. “It is clear when you walk through the doors that we are a faith-based senior-living community,” commented Betty Hickle, Executive Director of Light of Hearts Villa. “We have Mass five days a week, daily rosary, and clergy who live and work here with us at the Villa. While we may not all be Catholic, there is a spirituality at the Villa that permeates the halls.” Sr. Regina Kusnir, SC, an original Vincentian Sister of Charity, serves as the Director of Pastoral and Special Ministries, providing pastoral care to all residents while monitoring the effectiveness of the mission with the Annual Mission and Ministry report.

Light of Hearts Villa is one of the longest standing senior living facilities with a 27 year history of providing excellent, quality, compassionate care.

“I’m most proud of the care and compassion of my staff,” commented Betty Hickle. “We have consistently increased our patient satisfaction scores and now range in the 95% satisfaction scale, which is largely due to the staff and the personalized care they demonstrate to our residents,” she added.

The Villa offers independent living, assisted living, memory care and respite care, and also serves the elderly community with our Seton Safety Net program.

On Sunday, October 9,2016, the Villa will celebrate their Annual Fall Fest. Every dollar raised from the Fall Fest goes toward the Sr. Helen Scasny, SC Benevolent Fund, which provides for residents who outlive their financial resources.
