Erin Hathaway, Ohio Regional Director

Maggie’s Place is a network of homes of hospitality for pregnant and parenting women in need. Originally founded in Arizona in the year 2000, Maggie’s Place, The Zechariah House was founded in northeast Ohio in 2009 and is currently the only home established outside of the state of Arizona. This safe and welcoming ministry offers a home, life-changing services, and care for moms to-be with the goal of becoming self-sufficient.

Erin Hathaway, MNA, was living in community as a MissionCorps volunteer at Maggie’s Place at The Zechariah House in Parma, Ohio for 2 years. After receiving her Masters in Nonprofit Administration, she was offered her current position as Ohio Regional Director when Maggie’s Place restructured in 2016. The northeast Ohio location has a team of five MissionCorps volunteers living in community that assist with the daily operation of the home and a part time family coach. Erin is responsible for training the volunteers, coordinating programming, and overall management of the staff and home.
The Alumnae and Current Mom Programming includes an Car Seat Safety, Safe Sleep, counseling, monthly social events, and classes that encourage creativity, empowerment and healing through relationship. In addition, moms receive assistance with birth plans, case management and connections to resources. Maggie’s Place has relationships with community-based programs such as Womankind, and receives donations of essential goods.

The moms that are welcomed at the home have experienced abuse, neglect and trauma. Maggie’s Place has adopted a practice of trauma-informed care, which acknowledges the personal history of an individual and meets the moms where they are. This method of care can improve the effectiveness of therapy the moms receive.

Maggie’s Place provides moms with safe and secure shelter, childhood development, family coaching and resources, and job readiness. Moms work with a case manager to learn life-skills and mom and baby are able to reside with at Maggie’s Place for one year after the birth. These services help moms to become better parents and face the future with confidence as they become self-sufficient.
