I am originally from Nicaragua and Mexico. I got my BA in Psychology from Florida International University and currently I am getting my MA in Counseling and Art Therapy at Ursuline College. I first heard of Catholic Community Connections from Julie Jones, the Career Development and Placement Specialist at Ursuline College. Julie mentioned that the summer Fellows Program Coordinator position was open for graduate students. I was so happy and excited when I got the position.
Creating and hosting the Honoring the Sister’s Legacy Day event was an amazing experience that taught me how to reach out and make connections in order to put an event together. From talking to Sr. Mariam Erb, CSA, to collaborating with Marian Rubin, president of Catholic Community Connection, and practicing the presentation. The event itself was a great hit and participants were able to share how Catholic sisters impacted our lives in a positive way. The second day of Honoring the Sister’s Legacy Day featured with Sr. Catherine (Kate) Walsh, CSA. It was a faith-filled program and we were able to learn from such a brave and spirit-led sister. Watching her film and hearing her speak was inspirational.
I am so glad and thankful to have been part of the 2020 Summer Fellows Program and to have Marian Rubin as my mentor. She has definitely encouraged me and taught me how to be a professional in the field. Marian has helped me to see all the good things that the Catholic faith and the Cleveland community have to offer. I have grown and learned so much from Catholic Community Connection and hope to continue working with them in the future.
