Celebrating 175 Years of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine
What began in 1851 with the arrival of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in Cleveland, Ohio, has grown into a legacy that continues today through the Sisters of Charity Health System and its many ministries in Cleveland, Canton and South Carolina. We are honored to be a strategic partner of the Sisters of Charity Health System and to be able to carry forward this story of faith in action.
A Legacy That Shaped Communities
For generations, the CSA Sisters helped build the foundation for:
- Hospitals and health centers
- Schools and educational programs
- Social service and housing ministries
- Faith-based outreach and spiritual care
Their work has touched millions of lives—and continues to guide our mission at Catholic Community Connection today.
The Mission Today
The Sisters of Charity Health System carries this legacy into the future through ministries that support:
- Healthcare, behavioral health and addiction recovery
- Housing stability and supportive services
- Educational success and family resilience
- Community development, equity and opportunity
- Older adults seeking dignity and spiritual connection
As a strategic partner of the Sisters of Charity Health System, we are part of a family that extends the healing ministry of Jesus with special attention to addressing the unmet needs of individuals, families and communities.
Why This Anniversary Matters
This milestone invites all of us to:
- Honor the founding Sisters and their courage
- Recognize the lasting impact of all Health System ministries and partners
- Recommit to a mission rooted in compassion and justice
- Inspire new generations to carry this work forward
It reminds us that we are part of a story much larger than ourselves—one that continues to unfold. Collectively, we continue and advance the work of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
