This summer, we are proud to spotlight one of our Catholic Community Connection 2025 Fellows, Marnia Gipson a recent graduate of John Carroll University, where she earned her Master’s in Digital Marketing & Communication Strategy. She served as the Digital Marketing Communications Intern at the Sisters of Charity Health System.

What drew her to the fellowship was more than just professional development. “Sister Miriam’s message to me felt personal,” she shared. “The mission of the Sisters of Charity deeply resonated with my own values. It wasn’t just about building a bottom line, it was about serving others.”

Throughout the fellowship, she supported her supervisor Mary Rose on various communications initiatives, but her most significant contribution was the development of a new podcast series designed to amplify the voices and mission of the Sisters. Working alongside Miguel Chavez, Senior Vice President of Mission and Ministry, she helped shape a creative and heartfelt approach to storytelling. “We wanted to tell the story of the sisters in a creative way that would really bring their heart and work to life,” she said.

The first episode centers on the quote “One loving heart sets another on fire,” spoken by Sister Miriam Erb, CSA. The episode brings together scripture, storytelling, and the sisters’ mission, inviting listeners to reflect on how one act of love can inspire another. The podcast will include themes like, Risk Takers, Joyful Accompaniment, Legacy Builders, and Am I My Brother’s Keeper?

The podcast became both a pilot and a launching point for future projects. The team is now shifting direction, moving from audio-only episodes to video-based content. This new approach will open the door to a wider audience, enable more dynamic storytelling, and create new opportunities to connect and engage with the community in creative ways.

Her supervisor, Mary Rose Sullivan, played a key role in empowering Marnia throughout the creative process. “Mary Rose was always so encouraging,” she shared. “She’d say things like, ‘I can’t wait to see what you come up with,’ which gave me the confidence to move forward and trust my ideas.” Her constant support helped her embrace her creativity with confidence.

he fellowship also positively influenced Marnia’s part-time work at her church, where she recently took on more responsibility in social media and now even has an intern of her own. “This experience gave me the confidence to step into that role more fully and to pour into others, too.”

Reflecting on the summer, she shared her gratitude for the people she worked with, especially those who made her feel welcome and inspired. “It’s been a beautiful experience,” she said. “The fellows who come after us will be very pleasantly surprised.”
